When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.우리 공화국의 건국자들이 위대한 헌법과 독립 선언서를 작성하였을 때, 그들은 모든 미국인들이 물려 받게 될 확실한 조항에 사인하였다. 이 조항은 모든 사람은 빼앗을 수 없는 삶, 자유, 행복 추구권을 갖는다는 약속이었다
It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. 오늘날, 미국은 유색 인종이 관여되어 있는 한은 이 확실한 조항을 불이행하여 왔다는 것은 명백한 사실이다.

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the Negro. 국가가 지금의 급박함을 못본척 넘기고, 흑인의 결단을 과소평가한다면 치명적 실수를 하는 것이 될 것이다 국가가 위기의 순간을 간과하고, 흑인차별문제를 과소평가하는 것은 치명적일 것이다.
This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality.

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.

We can never be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote.미시시피의 흑인들이 투표에 참여 할수 없고 뉴욕에 잇는 흑인들이 투표할 대상이 없는 한 결코 우리는 만족할수 없습니다
No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.
